The BECI Story: Digital Transformation of an Ecosystem Serving Businesses


For over a century, BECI (Brussels Enterprises Commerce & Industry) has supported the economic development of Brussels. Serving as both a Chamber of Commerce and an Employers' Organization, BECI is the preferred partner for more than 35,000 companies. Its activity is intense and diverse: networking events, specialized media, institutional lobbying, and continuous training. For BECI, the challenge is to provide high-value services while managing an extremely large member base through Odoo.  

The Challenges of Consolidation and Automation

Faced with a multiplicity of IT tools, BECI needed to simplify its architecture to gain agility:

Unifying a fragmented ecosystem: Moving from Wordpress, Efficy (CRM), and Horus (Accounting) to the single Odoo platform was essential to break down data silos.

Optimizing event management: With hundreds of annual meetings, BECI required a robust tool to automate registrations and participant tracking.

Modernizing membership management: The goal was to simplify the member lifecycle, from online subscription to automatic renewal of dues.

Digitalizing administrative services: Automating heavy processes such as billing for Certificates of Origin and ATA Carnets (customs), previously managed manually via external platforms.

1. Strategic In-housing and Data Centralization

Idealis's approach involved progressively integrating critical functions within Odoo. By migrating Accounting and preparing the phase-out of the legacy CRM, we gave BECI full control over its data. This consolidation now allows for a 360° view of the member.

2. Operational Excellence: Smart Membership and Portal

To meet the complex needs of a Chamber of Commerce, we deployed our:​ Smart Membership :

  • Total Autonomy (Self-service): Companies can now subscribe and pay for their membership directly online.
  • Integrated Payment: Activating online payments for events and dues has improved cash flow and drastically reduced the administrative burden of payment reminders.
  • "My BECI" Portal: Creation of a personalized member space allowing members to manage their profiles and interactions with the Chamber seamlessly.

3. Collaborative Agility and Communication

Idealis supported the transformation of internal working methods:

  • Planning via Odoo Project: The communication team, which previously used Asana, was migrated to Odoo to centralize the planning of email campaigns and media content.
  • Customs Services Automation: We developed data import logic to automatically bill Certificates of Origin, transforming a time-consuming task into a near-instant process.

Thanks to this unified digital foundation, BECI has modernized its image and operational performance. Centralizing tools in Odoo allows teams to step away from technical maintenance and focus on their mission: advising and supporting Brussels-based businesses.
